- It depends on which test version you take. The 2008 test asks 10 questions from a pool of 100 — you need 6 correct. The 2025 test asks 20 questions from a pool of 128 — you need 12 correct. Which version you take depends on when you filed your N-400.
- Both tests require 60% correct answers. For the 2008 test, that is 6 out of 10. For the 2025 test, that is 12 out of 20. You also need to pass the English reading and writing tests.
- The 2008 test has 100 questions (asked 10, need 6 correct). The 2025 test has 128 questions (asked 20, need 12 correct) and applies to N-400 applications filed on or after October 20, 2025. About 75% of the 2025 content comes from the 2008 test, with 25% new material. Our app covers both versions.

- The civics test is oral — the USCIS officer reads the questions aloud and you answer verbally. There is no written civics test. The officer stops once you answer enough questions correctly.
- If you fail any portion of the test, you can retake it once within 60-90 days. You only retake the portion you failed (civics, English reading, or English writing).
